| | Yookyung Kim, PhD Associate Professor, Health & Community Systems (Primary) Associate Professor, Biostatistics (Secondary) Education BS, Seoul National University, 1986 MS, University of Pittsburgh, 1989 PhD, University of Pittsburgh, 1993 Research Interests My research has been organized around applications of measurement and statistical theories (item response theory, structural equation modeling, latent growth modeling, signal detection methodology) to health science research. I am a recipient of the 2002 Early Career Investigator Award from the International Society for Quality of Life Research. I am currently the principal investigator of a Central Research Development Fund to examine pathways and relative strength of the association between clinical variables and health-related quality of life after Subarachnoid hemorrhage. I am also collaborating as co-investigator and statistician on six R01 research projects with the National Institute of Health (NIH) funding. I have recently completed my NIH grant, "Age-related differences in measures of depression: Use of item response theory". My work based on this project, published in the American Psychological Journal, the Psychology and Aging (September, 2002), was featured again on the cover page of another American Psychological Association journal, the Clinician's Research Digest (February, 2003). The reviewers of this journal judged my publication as being among the six best papers over 80 journals they reviewed monthly in mental health research. Courses NUR 3110: Research Instrumentation NUR 3060: Independent Study NUR 3010: Dissertation Research I have taught measurement and statistics courses at the master's and doctoral levels in both the School of Nursing and the Graduate School of Public Health. I currently teach master and doctoral level courses (NUR3110, NUR3060, NUR3010) in the Department of Health and Community Systems. Topics include measurement and modeling issues in health science research, i.e., reliability, validity, factor structure, responsiveness, sensitivity, measurement bias, discrimination and information function, signal detection method, structural equation modeling, generalizability theory, and item response theory. I have taught graduate courses on psychometrics in the Department of Biostatistics. I have guest lectured about advance topics in measurement and modeling in both the School of Nursing and the Graduate School of Public Health, as well as the School of Medicine Department of Psychiatry. I have served on eleven PhD dissertation committees as co-chair and member since I have joined the School of Nursing in 2001. I have also severed as a primary mentor on T32 training grant, “ Technology: Research in Chronic and Critical Illness”, for pre- and post-doctoral students with NIH funding. Services I have served as faculty statistician and methodological and analytic consultant in the Center for Research and Evaluation (CRE). My consulting and research activities at the CRE have enabled me to introduce new measurement and statistical theories concerning both design and analysis, and have led to the development of novel methodologies. I have also serve as the consultant for Psychometrical Support Services in the Center for Research in Chronic Disorders. I am the Chair of the Diversity Committee of the school and have actively participated on committees outside the University in professional organizations such as the International Society for Quality of Life Research (ISOQOL) since I was awarded “The Early Career Investigator Award” from its 9 th annual conference meeting in 2002.
